Introduction

Langtang Valley trek is a great place for new hikers as it is considered as one of the shortest and easy trek that can be completed in small amount of time. Langtang is located only 19 miles to the north of Kathmandu valley and south of Tibetan Border. Langtang valley is one of the ideal places to get closer to the snowy mountains. The Langtang Valley Trek is also known as the glacier trek as the valley is dominated by many snow-capped mountains like the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal range. Langtang valley also encompasses the unique culture and lifestyle of Tamang people, making the trek a fulfilling experience.

The trail to Langtang valley comprises of unique blend of Natural and cultural aspects. The area comes under the protection of Langtang National Park which is also the nearest national park from Kathmandu. Langtang National Park is home to various endangered plants and animals and if one is lucky enough, you may also get to encounter a few. Besides flora and fauna, views of mesmerizing Himalayan peaks such as Langtang Lirung (7227m), Langtang II (6596m), Ganesh Himal (7422m), Gangchempo (6386m), Langshisa Ri (6427m), Naya Kanga (5844m), and many other massive mountains can be observed.

The 11-day Langtang Valley Trek is a short and easy grade trek. The trip starts with a drive to Syabrubesi from Kathmandu through various twists and turns. The actual trekking trail starts as soon as you reach Syabrubensi. The trekking trail mostly passes through densely forested trail filled with oaks, pines, and bamboo trees. Trekkers also stumble across waterfalls, rugged rocks, large Mani walls, Chortens, prayers flags, and swift mountain streams. Another highlight of the trek includes Kyanjin Gompa which is an old Buddhist Monastery surrounded by huge mountains. Trekkers also get an opportunity to visit the local cheese factory in Kyanjin. Langtang valley is not only rich scenically but culturally as well, with the majority of community Tamang inhabitants. Trekker also gets a chance to learn about the lifestyle, culture, and tradition of the Tamang people during Langtang Valley Trek.

Generally spring and autumn are considered as the best time for trekking in Nepal. The best time for the Langtang valley trek would be during the spring i.e. March to May autumn i.e. from September to November as the weather remains warm and stable during the time.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at the airport, one of the office representatives from Expedition Himalaya shall welcome you at the Tribhuvan International Airport and escort you to the hotel as well as assist you in check-in procedure.

Today we give you a free day in Kathmandu to take a rest or make any last minute preparation before leaving for the trek. Later in the evening, we discuss briefly regarding the dos and don'ts of the trek. 

Leaving behind the capital city, we drive to Sybrubensi early in the morning, it takes about 7-8 hrs to reach. Moving along the flow of Trishuli River and relishing the view of large green hills, snow-capped mountains, and amazing landscapes, we pass through the town of Dhunche to finally reach the hotel in Sybrubensi.

Today we start our first day of the trek as we start ascending to Lama Hotel. We move along the flow of Langtang Khola until we cross a suspension bridge. We then enter the densely forested trail filled with rhododendron, pine, bamboo and oak trees. We also come across some ancient monasteries before reaching Lama Hotel.

We trek through the densely forested path filled with rhododendron and pine trees to reach Ghoda Tabela. We then enter Langtang National Park where we may encounter some wild animals if we are lucky enough. We also pass through some villages and stone paved streets till we reach Langtang. Upon reaching the Tamang village of Langtang, we get a mesmerizing view of Langtang Lirung (7227m).

Today we trek towards Kyanjin Gompa passing through pasture land where we may get a sight of yak grazing. We also come across water mills, sacred rocks, icefalls, and a large Mani wall made from stone with prayers carved on them before reaching Kyanjin Gompa. In the evening, we will visit the ancient monastery which is considered the most sacred by the Tamangs in Langtang region. The monastery also hosts a stunning panorama of the Langtang range.

To adjust with the thinning air, we spend our day resting and exploring the areas nearby. We can also take a short hike to Tserko Ri (5000m) to enjoy the spectacular view of Mount Langtang Lirung (7227m), Gangchempo (6386m), Yala Peak (5500m), Yubra (6264m), and several other mountain peaks. After returning from the hike, we can visit the local yak cheese factory and taste the fresh cheese as well.

Today we retrace our trail back to Lama Hotel. Relishing the stunning view of Langtang Lirung (7227m) in the background, we pass through various Tamang villages and forested paths until we reach Ghoda Tabela. We also stumble across several waterfalls, Chortens, prayers flags, and old monasteries on our way back to Lama Hotel.


For our last day of the trek, we descend through the dense forest of rhododendron, oak, pine, and bamboo. Enjoying the wilderness and beauty of Langtang, we move alongside Langtang Khola. We cross several suspension bridges over Langtang Khola to finally reach Sybrubensi.

Relishing the view of the roadside, from snowcapped mountains to green hills, rivers, waterfalls and daily activities of the local, we drive back to the capital city in a private jeep. Upon reaching Kathmandu, we transfer you back to the hotel.

One of our office representative will escort you to the airport as per your scheduled departure. Normally you need to reach at Tribhuvan International Airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight hoping to see you again.
