Introduction

Mera Peak is one of the famous trekking peaks in Nepal. Mera peak towers at 6476 meters and is considered to be amongst the tallest peaks of the Everest Region. It is officially the highest permitted trekking peak. Mera Peak is an attractive peak that rises to the south of Mount Everest and dominates the uninhabited valleys of Hongu and Hinku. Mera Peak (6476m) is located in the Lower Solu, south of Mt. Everest. There are three summits of Mera Peak: North (6,476 m), Central (6,461 m), and south (6,065 m). The ascent of the Mera Peak offers breathtaking views of 5 mountains over 8000 meters altitude – Mt. Everest 8848m, Mt. Cho Oyu 8201m, Mt. Makalu 8485m, Mt. Kanchenjunga 8586m, Mt. Lhotse 8516m and several other peaks of Everest region. Mera Peak Climbing in Nepal is considered more adventurous and less challenging than other trekking peaks in that region. This climbing offers a good experience of moderate peak climbing making it accessible to interested travelers globally.

The itinerary for climbing Mera Peak is certainly different, as we will be going via Phaplu, which lies in Makalu Barun National Park. You can enjoy the rich Sherpa culture and lifestyle in villages like Phaplu, Taksindu, Nunthala, and Kharikhola. The simplicity and contentment of people living in these villages will certainly make you ponder upon your life. There are many Gumbas throughout the route, the major one being Chiwang Monastery, where you can get good vibes and positive energy from. The trek will also take you through passes like Zatra Pass, Mera La Pass, and Taksindu Pass. As you approach Mera Peak, the trails become easier and not as steep. The trail from Kote to Khare is actually quite easy and enjoyable, despite the altitude. Walking the river valley up to Khote, with these magnificent peaks all around you is beyond words.

Expedition Himalaya allows you to enjoy the holiday to the fullest by organizing the complete package making your trip hassle-free. Accommodation at the tea houses operated by the local entrepreneurs will be provided with inclusive of the meals. During the summit days, the accommodation will be arranged in the tents. Our Mera peak expedition cook prepares all fresh, hygienic and really tasty food. As a safety precaution, we always carry a comprehensive medical kit. Mera Peak Climb can be done during any time of the year, however, the best time for Everest Base Camp Trek would be the Spring Season (March to May) and autumn season (October to December). Our standard itinerary for Mera Peak is designed after consultation with the expert guides. The itinerary allows proper acclimatization and adequate time for trekkers to adapt to the environment and enjoy the trek to the fullest.

Itinerary

Arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport, where our representative will welcome you and assist with hotel check-in. Spend the evening relaxing or exploring the city.

A free day in Kathmandu to rest and prepare for the upcoming adventure. Attend a briefing session to finalize gear and discuss the trek details.

Take a scenic flight to Lukla and begin the trek with a gradual ascent through lush forests to Chutanga. Enjoy the peaceful surroundings and acclimatize to the altitude.

Cross the Zatrwa La Pass, enjoying stunning views of the Himalayas. Descend to Tuli Kharka, passing through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests.

Descend through dense forests and follow the Hinku River to Gothey. The trail is rich with diverse flora and fauna.

Follow the river upstream and trek through a narrow valley to Thagnag. Marvel at views of surrounding peaks and glacial terrain.

Take a day to acclimatize, exploring nearby ridges and enjoying panoramic mountain views. This is crucial for a successful ascent.

Ascend to Khare, passing through moraines and glacial streams. Khare offers incredible views of Mera Peak and surrounding glaciers.

Spend the day resting and preparing for the climb. Review climbing techniques and gear with the guide to ensure safety.

Begin the climb to Mera Base Camp, navigating icy terrain. The base camp is set on a glacier, providing a thrilling start to the summit push.

Ascend to Mera High Camp, located on a rocky ridge. The camp provides stunning views of Everest, Makalu, and Kanchenjunga.

Start early for the summit push, climbing steep snow slopes to reach the peak. Enjoy breathtaking views before descending back to Khare.

Reserve this day to account for potential weather delays or additional acclimatization.

Descend back to Gothey, retracing your steps through the serene Hinku Valley.

Climb back to Tuli Kharka, crossing the Zatrwa La Pass and enjoying spectacular mountain vistas.

Descend to Lukla, marking the end of your trekking adventure. Celebrate the journey with your team.

Take a scenic flight back to Kathmandu. Transfer to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing day in the city.

Our representative will escort you to the airport for your departure. Leave with unforgettable memories of the Himalayas.

MERA PEAK, October 2024. This was my 3rd trekking summit with Expedition Himalaya and my favorite to date. The journey to Mera Peak is challenging but the time spent acclimatizing made summit day enjoyable.
