Introduction

Himlung Himal, at 7126 meters located in the Peri- Damodar range in the northeastern part of Manang District. Himlung does not share a border with China. The mountain is surrounded by Nemjung, Gyaji Kang, Himjung, Ratna Chuli, and several unnamed peaks exceeding 6000 meters. Himlung has developed into a popular option among climbers as an ideal choice for training and preparation for 8000er. One has to trek through the banks of Marshyangdi river from Koto or via Chame. As Manang district lies in the rain shadow zone, the trek up the Himlung base camp is a different experience. The place is also famous for the sight of the rare 'Ghost of the Himalaya" - the Snow Leopard. The culture and households of natives in Nar and Phu offers a different world experience. Himlung Himal was first climbed in 1992 by the Japanese. In 2013, a new and comparatively safer route was discovered by French Kari Kobler and team. Current normal route to the Summit is via the North-West Route.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be greeted by an Expedition Himalaya representative who will assist you with the transfer to your hotel. After check-in, take some time to relax and adjust to the new surroundings. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the local area at your leisure.

Today will be spent preparing for the trek and finalizing all required permits. You can visit popular sites such as Thamel or Basantapur, soaking in the local culture and history. Enjoy a relaxed day before the adventure begins, with an overnight stay in Kathmandu.

This morning, we begin the drive to Koto, a beautiful village located in the Manang region. The scenic journey offers views of the surrounding mountains and rural villages. Upon arrival, check-in at your accommodation and rest for the evening.

Your trekking adventure begins today as you hike from Koto to Meta, a village set at a higher altitude. The trail will pass through forests and local settlements, offering an opportunity to experience the rural Himalayan lifestyle. Reach Meta by the end of the day and settle in for the night.

Today's trek will take you higher to the village of Chyakhu, nestled in the stunning mountain landscape. As you ascend, the views become more expansive, with towering peaks surrounding you. Upon arrival in Chyakhu, rest and prepare for the next day's journey.

Continue trekking towards Phu, a remote village known for its cultural heritage. The route will take you through narrow trails with rocky terrain and breathtaking landscapes. Reach Phu by the evening and relax to acclimatize to the altitude.

Take a well-deserved rest day at Phu for proper acclimatization to the high altitude. Explore the village, learn about the local customs, and interact with the villagers for a deeper cultural experience. Spend the night in Phu to prepare for the higher altitudes ahead.

Today, begin the ascent to Himlung Base Camp, where the climbing phase will start. The trek will be more challenging as you reach higher altitudes, but the scenery will be worth the effort. Upon arrival at base camp, settle in and take time to acclimatize.

Spend the day at Himlung Base Camp to acclimatize and prepare for the upcoming summit attempt. Use this time to check your gear, discuss climbing strategies, and rest your body. This day will help ensure you’re well-prepared for the climb ahead.

A traditional Puja ceremony will be held at the base camp today to seek blessings for a successful and safe climb. The ceremony is an important part of the expedition, honoring the mountain and ensuring positive energy for the team.

The next two weeks are dedicated to the climb, with a mix of ascent and rest days. Your guides will lead you through different camps while adjusting to the high altitude. Every day will bring new challenges, but the rewards will be the stunning vistas and the thrill of approaching the summit.

After reaching the summit of Himlung, celebrate your success and take time to rest. Pack up your gear for the descent, knowing that you've achieved a remarkable feat. Spend a relaxing evening at base camp to reflect on your accomplishment

Begin your descent and head back to Meta, retracing your steps down the mountain. The journey back will be quicker, but you’ll still have the chance to appreciate the views from a different perspective. Rest for the night in Meta, as you continue to adjust to the lower altitudes.

Today’s trek brings you to Koto, where you’ll retrace the path taken earlier in the expedition. The descent is easier, but still offers beautiful mountain views. Upon arrival in Koto, rest for the evening before your journey back to Kathmandu.

After breakfast, begin the drive back to Kathmandu, concluding your trek in the Himalayas. The drive offers a final chance to soak in the views of the countryside before reaching the bustling capital city. Arrive in Kathmandu in the afternoon, check-in to your hotel, and rest.

Take two days to relax and recover from your expedition. Explore Kathmandu’s landmarks like Durbar Square or the Boudhanath Stupa, or simply rest at your hotel. Enjoy your free time to reflect on the adventure and prepare for your return home.

On your final day, you'll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport for your departure. Say goodbye to Nepal and head home with memories of a successful Himlung expedition. Safe travels!
