Introduction

The expedition to Mount Lhotse can be done either from Everest Base Camp or nearby Chhukung. Being an 8,000er, the Lhotse Expedition encounters many obstacles including high altitudes, harsh weather conditions and even sheer exhaustion. We believe our planning, logistics, staffing and experience coupled with your enthusiasm, patience, and perseverance would help you achieve your lifetime dream. We strive hard to conduct the best expedition program at a fair price.

At a height of 8,516m, Mt Lhotse is the fourth highest peak in the world – situated just 3 km South of the Majestic Mt. Everest.

In the expedition, both Mount Everest and Mount Lhotse share the same base camp as well. This beautiful Lhotse holds immense promise as it is little developed and offers fascinating opportunities. It's embedded in a region of great natural scenery and dotted with monuments and villages representing the cultural diversity of Nepal.

The spring season of March to May is considered the best time for the Lhotse expedition. Spring is also the most popular season for the expedition. The months of April and May and then again in October and November are the classic climbing period. The summer months of monsoon rains and the winter months from December to February are the most unfavorable time for Lhotse Expedition. The temperatures can vary from 27c to – 7c at lower elevations, and at higher elevations, it can vary from 16c to -23c.

Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, one of our representatives will warmly welcome you and escort you to your hotel. They will also assist you with the check-in process.

These days are dedicated to final preparations for your expedition. We’ll handle permits and gear checks while you can explore Kathmandu’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Boudhanath Stupa and Swayambhunath.

Enjoy a scenic 35-40-minute flight to Lukla, offering breathtaking Himalayan views. From Lukla, trek through Sherpa villages and lush forests to reach Phakding. It’s a gentle introduction to the journey ahead.

Follow the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges adorned with prayer flags. Enter Sagarmatha National Park and climb steeply to Namche Bazaar, the vibrant hub of the Khumbu region.

Spend the day exploring Namche and acclimatizing to the altitude. Visit the Everest View Hotel for stunning panoramic views of Everest, or explore the Sherpa Culture Museum and local monasteries.

Descend to the Dudh Koshi River and climb through rhododendron forests to Tengboche. The monastery here is one of the most significant in the region and offers panoramic views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

Pass through lush alpine forests and cross the Imja Khola before reaching the charming village of Pangboche. The trail then climbs to Dingboche, surrounded by terraced fields and stunning mountain scenery.

Take a break to adapt to the increasing altitude. Optional hikes to Nagarjun Hill provide incredible views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. This day ensures you're well-prepared for higher elevations.

Ascend along the Khumbu Glacier’s lateral moraine, passing the Thukla Memorial dedicated to climbers who perished on Everest. The air becomes thinner, but Lobuche offers striking views of Nuptse and Pumori.

The trail becomes rockier as you trek alongside the glacier. Gorak Shep is a remote settlement and serves as the final stop before reaching Everest Base Camp.

Today is a milestone as you trek to Everest Base Camp. Walk along the Khumbu Glacier, surrounded by majestic peaks. After reaching Base Camp, return to Gorak Shep to rest.

This period includes acclimatization, training, and rotations between camps to prepare for the summit attempt. Starting from Camp I, you’ll progress through Camp II, Camp III, and finally Camp IV in the Death Zone. With the guidance of Sherpas, you'll make your summit attempt, standing fourth top point of the earth.

After the summit, begin your descent. Trek to Pheriche, a quiet village where you can rest and recover from the challenging climb.

Retrace your steps through rhododendron forests and cross suspension bridges. Arriving at Namche Bazaar feels rewarding as you descend to lower altitudes.

Continue your descent, passing familiar trails and Sherpa villages. Arrive in Lukla, where your trekking journey concludes.

Enjoy a scenic flight back to Kathmandu, marking the end of your time in the Himalayas. Take the rest of the day to relax or explore the city.

Spend the day celebrating your success, shopping for souvenirs, or visiting cultural landmarks. It’s a perfect opportunity to reflect on your incredible journey.

Our team will escort you to the airport for your onward flight. Carry the unforgettable memories of your Everest expedition as you bid farewell to Nepal.

I have nothing but good things to say about Expedition Himalaya. They are a professional and well-run organization. We worked with Expedition Himalaya for the 2021 Everest season. From the onset, they provided reliable and timely information with regards to entering the country and initiating our trek into basecamp. Once on the mountain, the basecamp was fantastic. Very organized, amazing food and very nice tents. Dawa, Nabin, Sarki and the rest of the crew were very receptive to any requests, they were always thinking ahead and they organized a very successful trip. I would 100% work with them the next time I go back to Nepal, be it for climbing or treking. They are the best of the best.
