Langtang region is comparatively less popular than Everest and Annapurna region however the perks of travelling to the region is it lies very close to the capital Kathmandu. The options to reach the region is either an hour’s drive from Kathmandu or a 35 minutes helicopter flight from Kathmandu. The trekking trails in the region are well developed and every year many people visit the area. The people who visits the area are generally the ones who wants to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy their peaceful holidays in the lap of the nature. The region comes under the protection of Langtang National Park which hosts many rare species of flora and fauna such as red billed and yellow billed magpies, cuckoos, North American night hawks etc. To enter the region, one needs to obtain Langtang National Park permit as well as TIMS permit. Langtang national park also covers the area consisting of the number of high peaks. The Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges including Langtang Lirung (7246m), Gang Chhenpo (6388m), Naya Kangri (5846m), Yala peak (5700m) and Dorji Lhakpa (6966m) are few peaks to mention.
The main attractions of the Langtang region are Langtang Valley which is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north bothering Tibet and a slightly lower range of the snowy peaks to the south. The other attraction is the sacred alpine lakes of Gosainkunda and the rolling Sherpa farmlands of Helambu. Trekking in the region can extend from 1 week to 17 days. Langtang region is famous for the many treks such as Langtang Valley Trek, GosainKunda Trek, Tamang Heritage Trail, Helambu Trek etc. The trek in the Langtang region provides an opportunities to explore the villages, small peaks, glacial lakes and also learn the culture and tradition of the people living in the area. The best time to trek is during the spring (March to May) and during autumn (September to November). The spring season unveils an impressive display of colorful rhododendron forests along the trail. The weather during autumn is pleasant and good for photography.
While on the trek, accommodation will be based on the lodges which are run by the local entrepreneurs and food will be served in the local lodges as well. The guides appointed by the company will look after all the logistics and take care of the members throughout the trek.
